it took a year... to finish.

So for my brother and sister-in-law's wedding/anniversary gift I wanted to do a painting for them. My sister-in-law found a picture she wanted me to turn into a painting and e-mailed it to me. well... as soon as I got it I printed the picture out and put it in a protective cover... however it took me about two months to actually get the canvas gessoed, and sketch it out. After that I was pretty excited about my new painting... and then I moved out east for a few months to live with a cousin, then to Santa Barbara, to live with some other relatives. By the time I got back home to work on it again, half a year had gone by! Since its an oil painting I took time inbetween layers for them to dry... which given my time that I worked on them, well... alot of time would pass between each layer. Finally after summer I was able to work on it to my hearts content! Now it is finally finished! I was able to present it to them for Christmas, however the red would not dry! so i couldn't actually give it to them until it dryed... but now it has and is now haning in thier living room. I'm so glad they like it! Below is the image, the painting, and details of my year long project...

Wow... It's been a Year...

Wow! It has been a year since i last posted anything here... alot has happened since then. Lets see... I graduated from Sonoma State University with my B.A. in studio art, then worked at an awesome camp (Calvin Crest) for the summer as the Crafts Girl (aka. Director of Crafts) for the Crestview team. It was awesome, but i didn't get alot of my own artwork done. Then I moved in with my cousin and his family to help out there, as well as work on my art. I got two pieces done while I was there. Now I'm back home with my parents and have been dillengtly working on new art work. I have been working on creating celitc knots...
and here are some of my latest drawings...

Drawing...

For my drawing class I am doing calla lilies in colored pencil. The large drawing is partly acrylic paint (background) with colored pencil on top. The smaller drawings are colored pencil on receipt paper.

this drawing (above) has the chemical structure of oxyalic acid (H2C2O4), the natural toxin found in all parts of the calla lily plants and that is harful if ingested, breathed in, or on skin tissue. the highest concentration of this chemical is in the roots, so when you plant these wear gloves and don't get any "juices" from the plant on you. In the background is a close-up image of the Classic White Calla Lily. This drawing is still in progress...

With these little guys I had fun just drawing several of the different colors that callas come in. They are so long and elegant...

New work in progress...

Here is my most recent piece that I am currently working on. I was drawn to a Calla Lily one morning just after the rain and started taking photos of them, then I noticed that they had aphids on them. Since my last piece had aphids on it as well, I had been researching them (the aphids) and have become quite fascinated with them. So that is what got me into making this piece, now however, I have been researching Calla Lilies and finding out interesting facts that have been drawing me further into the piece.

The painting is 4ft X 5ft

Welcome!

So, my roomate Annie finally got me to create a website to post my artwork, sketchings, and poetry on, since I'm soon to become a "professional" artist after graduating from college. And now...

I Welcome you to my page of wonder where every piece I create reflects my wonderment and love of the beauty that God has made and placed around me. I find inspiration in the smallest things, and oftentimes in the most absurd places.
